The Incheon Seo-gu Little Baseball Team won the first Shin Shin Hotel Cup & Korea Little Baseball Federation in June. And on the 8th of last month, the U-12 team won the 5th MLB Cup Little Baseball Competition held in Jeju, and the U-10 team won the runner-up prize. The momentum continued. In the 19th Yongsan-gu Cheonggi, they tied for the final with Yongin Barun and also won the 10th Park Chan-ho Cup. They have recently won the championship in three consecutive tournaments.
Jeong Min-seok (38), the coach of Incheon's "Little" team, is a leader who is serious about baseball. When he was a high school student, he was a shortstop who hit home runs while serving as a table setter. Geum Min-cheol was one year younger than Ryu Hyun-jin. However, after going to Dankook University, he quit baseball due to an injury. As a dream of baseball, he started coaching at Seo-gu, Incheon, and even served as a coach. "I started out as a leader by introducing my friend," Jeong said
Incheon Seo-gu, one of the best teams in Little Baseball, has grown into a stronger team since Chung took the helm. Currently, four staff members including Chung Min-seok and his coaches are with 50 players. "I know it is the team with the most players in Korea. It is a great performance. It is tough because we have a lot of players, but I am proud of it," Chung said with a smile. Chung naturally drew pictures for each grade level to help the team grow, leading to achievements.
Park Seok-hyun (12), an elementary school student who gained popularity recently, is also a member of Little League in Seo-gu, Incheon. Without taking any private lessons, I learned from Chung and the coaching staff from A to Z in baseball. "I got it when I was a freshman because of my good physique. At first, I didn't have any friends. Still, I worked hard, and I gained confidence in my height and stature, and I started to stand out from a year ago," Chung said. "If I continue to work hard, I will become a good player."
Chung said short but thick is his know-how. "Sometimes I start practicing from 4 p.m. on weekdays and practice at night for different grades. I try to rest as much as possible on weekends. We need to prevent children from getting injured and spend time with family," Chung said. "We also stress to children things they need to be careful about, such as violence and social media. We are trying to raise players with good skills as well as personality."
